The Gelderlander was first bred in the Netherlands. Gelderlanders were first bred to be carrage-pulling horses. Later, breeders realized that Gelderlanders were good riding horses.

Gelderlanders have plain and sensible heads, described to be carrage-horse heads.

Gelderlanders usually vary in height between 15.2 and 16.2hh.
Temperament:
The Gelderlanders are mostly very calm and docile horses.
Color:
The most common color of Gelderlanders is chestnut with white on the bottoms of the legs, but gray may also turn up on the legs.
